“…Along with musical expression , the objective in the majority of my works is to transfuse elements of our cultural inheritance into the spectrum of classical music, in order to preserve them, and at the same time to implement those elements beyond their superficial, folkloristic interpretation as applied often in contemporary practice.

Likewise, in several works of mine, utilizing the ancient dance forms as a basis, I process many traditional structural elements (beginning from selections of the few surviving ancient themes and advancing towards contemporary living tradition). All these combined elements, having been transmuted, define the novelty of the final character and lead to the search for an archetypal genetic code.

And it is important to note that, when pursuing that road, I am lead many times – and almost effortlessly – to magnificently innovative outcomes, constructing connective links even amongst the most advanced contemporary features and sounds.

Finally, I would like to emphasize my intention for the work as functioning in many levels: both as descriptive – programme music, as well as a tool of admission into the most important historical era of our nation , and ultimately, as a proposal for the implementation and transformation of our musical inheritance.” (excerpt from preface to FIVE ANCIENT GREEK DANCES)
